NOT MY SON Wins Festival Award

"Not My Son," a new documentary from Dwight Cammeron and Ginger Jolly of the Documentary Group in the University of Alabama Center for Public Television and Radio was recently awarded Best Feature Documentary by the Urban Suburban Film Festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The three-day event highlighted screenings from narratives, documentaries, animation, and short films.

I am deeply moved by the progress of this documentary but I am not surprised! From the moment I heard Dwight Cammeron's vision for this documentary, I was excited! I knew that it was special simply because Dwight and Ginger saw something that needed to be documented. He saw the drive and determination of our founder, Carolyn Johnson-Turner, and the zeal of her members concerning a very serious issue called violence. Parents Against Violence Foundation was formed out of tragedy for a much greater purpose. This documentary depicts the other side of violence; the pain, agony, and hurt that devastates a family after losing a loved one to violence, brutal murder. If you did not know the effects of violence, you will know after seeing this documentary. As the chaplain of Parents Against Violence, I would like to extend the most sincere thank you from PAV to the University of Alabama Documentary Group, Dwight Cammeron, and Ginger Jolly for taking the time to share our stories. The awards that have been won are proof of a job well done and now, the world will have the opportunity to hear our stories on television. I am truly humbled because I know that our children did not die in vain. May God continue to give you insight and courage to document relevant concerns.
